Early Pregnancy Scan

A Dating pregnancy scan is performed on pregnant women to detect the gestation age of the foetus. Ultrasound is very accurate in estimating the baby’s due date and the earlier the scan the better the accuracy. The most accurate time is between 11 and 14 weeks of gestation. In general ultrasound scans performed during the first trimester are within 3 – 5 days of accuracy. After 28 weeks, the stimation of the due date can be as long as 3 weeks out.

We offer the early pregnancy scan if you are below 11 weeks pregnant.

The earlier in pregnancy a scan is performed, the more accurate the age assignment from crown rump length. The initial age assignment should not be revised.

All of the women, of course, went into spontaneous labour. While the research is retrospective and thus only as good as the notes which professionals kept at the time, the study is very large and includes data from 18, women. In short, the researchers found that there were no meaningful differences between the prediction of date of birth by scan and last menstrual period LMP.
